Herbert Huncke (1915-1996), “Godfather of the Beats” – Tomorrow (August the 8th) will mark the 30th anniversary of his passing. As we have often done, here on the Allen Ginsberg Project, we celebrate him via footage taken by his friend and our friend, documentarian /videographer,Laki Vazakas. For this occasion, footage taken at the Chelsea Hotel, February 7, 1994 – Herbert on codeine and William Burroughs.
Sunday – if you happen to be in San Francisco, you should make your way to the Counterculture Museum, 6 o’clock, there will be an event featuring Pat Thomas and Peter Richardson, presenting their books on two classic literary publications, Evergreen Review and Rolling Stone (Pat’s Evergreen Review – Dispatches from the Literary Underground and Peter’s Brand New Beat).
Pat is also, of course, author of Allen Ginsberg- Material Wealth and copies of that book. currently unavailable in the stores, will be available there.

and next Tuesday in San Francisco (at Gray Area) – “Cyberpunks, Mutants & Mondoids -A Mondo 2000 Techno Counterculture Gathering“. As part of the two-day event, there will be the San Francisco premiere of Nova ’78, Aaron Brookner‘s remarkable documentary film, featuring priceless archival footage of the star-studded celebration of William Burroughs that took place in New York City that year.
