Paul McCartney’s Birthday

Paul McCartney‘s birthday today. He turns 84 – and a more spritely and comfortable and boyish 84-year-old is hard to imagine. Seems he’s been in the public eye quite a lot recently, (popping up in various places, touring in advance of his latest album,  The Boys of Dungeon Lane).

Here’s Paul discussing that record with Paul Mescal

and not forgetting, (looking back on his career, his post-Beatles career), Morgan Neville’s recently re-released documentary, Man on The Run

Here are a few recent notable appearances:

We love his date in a vegan chicken shop with the straight-faced Amelia Dimoldenberg

On a more serious note, there is his interview with Vernon Kay, (ten songs chosen to soundtrack his remarkable life, in a wide-ranging conversation)

and an open, informative, friendly chat in  The Rest is Entertainment with  Richard Osman and Marina Hyde

and Tom Holland gets to interview him for The Rest Is History

In the US, two notable surprise tv appearances –  On Saturday Night Live (SNL)

(and don’t miss this version of “Help”  with Will Ferrell on cowbell!)

and as the last guest on the last night of Stephen Colbert’s late-night show (which concluded with a triumphant group-performance of “Hello Goodbye“):  see here, here and here

and Willie Geist, a few days later, gets to feature and interview him on CBS’s Sunday Today show

Paul’s poetic persona – We strongly recommend The Lyrics: 1956 to the Present (2021), (an update of Blackbird Singing (edited by poet Adrian Mitchell, (2001))

and the accompanying illuminating podcast,  McCartney – A Life In Lyrics, (with poet Paul Muldoon (2023).

Here‘s a sample program – Paul and Paul Muldoon discuss Eleanor Rigby
Paul: “Allen Ginsberg told me it was a great poem so I’m going to go with Allen”

Here’s Paul reading a poem to his ex-wife Linda – “Her Spirit”

Paul’s photography – that’s another recent arena that’s emerged – Eyes of The Storm

We celebrated Paul back in 2020 on the occasion of his 78th birthday. We’re happy to do so again.

More Paul McCartney     here and here –  Never enough Paul McCartney – wishing him a very happy birthday!
