Robert Creeley’s birthday today. Here’s vintage Creeley from 1973:
“Sharing the bill with John Wieners in celebration of the 20th Anniversary of The Poetry Center at San Francisco State University, Robert Creeley reads from new work, November 15, 1973, at the San Francisco Museum of Art, at its Van Ness Avenue location (pre-SFMOMA). In this clip he reads: “The Temper,” “As You Come,” “Characteristically,” “For Ebbe,” “Surgeons,” “No,” “Hey,” “As We Sit,” and “Kitchen.” On reading his tiny poem for poet Ebbe Borregaard, Creeley quips: “Ebbe’s not here tonight, as usual. The most beautifully absent person I think I’ve ever known.”
