The University of Mississippi Press has an interesting series – the Literary Conversations series, gatherings of interviews. The series now boasts over two hundred titles. Among them four of them, all edited by David Stephen Calonne, the most recent, Conversations with Michael McClure (“twenty interviews from 1969 to 2015”), came out in 2024. The first one, with Gary Snyder appeared in 2017. Conversations with Allen.. appeared two years later. (We wrote about that here). Calonne also collected interviews with a particular fascination of his, Diane di Prima, Conversations with Diane di Prima (2022). and others.

Invaluable resources, these books – and an interesting scholar, David Stephen Calonne
(he teaches in the Department of English Language and Literature at Eastern Michigan University). Aside for his Beat scholarship, he is a specialist, perhaps the specialist in the works of Charles Bukowski (he edited five books of uncollected prose for City Lights, wrote a critical study and put together the Bukowski interviews book, Charles Bukowski: Sunlight Here I Am/Interviews and Encounters 1963-1993 for the small press, Sun Dog Press back in 2003).
