James Baldwin Centennial today.  Writer and civil rights activist James Baldwin was born (James Arthur Jones) on August 2nd 1924 at Harlem Hospital in New York City.

We celebrate him with these two photographs from 1986 (Baldwin attended Allen’s reading in Amherst, Massachusetts, at the Albion Bookstore)

He died the following year December 1, 1987, in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, France
