Friday’s Weekly Round -Up – 641

We’ve been featuring here on The Allen Ginsberg Project these past few months various video selections of tracks from The Fall of America tribute album, Allen Ginsberg’s Fall of America – Volume II – see here.  Here’s another (and final) one – Ashes (Reeno, Eraldo Bernocchi, and Bill Laswell)‘s all-too-pertinent 1971 evocation of displacement, “September on Jessore Road”

More video – the Gregory Corso celebration this past September (taking place  simultaneously in Rome, Italy and with a live video-feed beamed in from Woodstock, upstate New York) was, of course, a revelation and a grand success. Courtesy of our dear friend, Raymond Foye, we are able to view again the Woodstock component

Hosted by Paul McMahon and MC Shiv Mirabito, at the Woodstock Poetry Ashram Bookshop and Mothership Gallery, readers include, Ed Sanders (in a prerecorded performance), Andy Clausen,  Charles Stein, Mike Platsky, Phyllis Segura, Annie Nocenti, Valery Oisteanu & others. The presentation also includes footage of The Fugs and of much-missed Beat legend, Janine Pommy Vega, and, in addition,  offers glimpses of some of Corso’s original art work.

and also via Raymond, documentation of an extraordinary event in Brooklyn this past month, a reading to celebrate the publication of the new Artery Editions (UK) book, Pente- A Book of Woe by John Wieners (featuring publisher Patricia Hope Scanlan, editor Libby Musso Dacre, and authors/Weiners-o-philes, Raymond Foye, Michael Seth Stewart, Robert Dewhurst, Basil King, and Simon Pettet)

 

Thanks to Jerry Cimino and The Beat Museum for this heads-up on a recent informative paper – from the CLC Web (Purdue University) – Winnie L M Yee – “Ecopoetry As Method – Reading Gary Snyder as a Cultural Mediator Between China and the World”  – showing “how Gary Snyder’s 1958 translation of Cold Mountain Poems  was “not only instrumental in introducing ancient Chinese spirituality to Western literature, and the character of Han Shan to American culture, but helped revive a poet seemingly outcast even from Chinese literature itself”

 

 

& Ginsberg-and-AI news – Tonight (Friday) in Paris (5pm CET – that’s 11am. EST) at the Paris Photo Fair (booth A02) the Ginsberg-AI experimenters, theVERSEverse, will be instigating a conversation with the representatives of the Fahey/Klein Gallery around works to be featured in their upcoming on-line show, “After Ginsberg“, (opening Wednesday, a presentation of the  Unit London Art Gallery)

Ginsberg and the new technology – “What might we learn about Ginsberg and the poetic avant-garde by using today’s most transformative linguistic technology to “read” his photographs as poems?”

Sasha Stiles of the VERSEverse collaborative writes, “We will be releasing a very limited edition capsule of 6 poems x 3 editions each (plus a set designated for key literary and cultural institutions… The Unit exhibition, opens November 15, and, (following Paris), remaining editions will become available to collect.”
