In the wake of his triumphant 2022-2013 Guggenheim retrospective, Alex Katz, at 96 years of age, continues to be as active and inspired as ever. A comprehensive and engaging selection of work is currently up at the Museum Voorlinden, Wassenaar, Netherlands. Upcoming exhibits in Seoul, Chicago, Rome and New York City…

Earlier this year, the Richard Gray Gallery in Chicago, in collaboration with the Poetry Foundation, published Alex Katz: Collaborations with Poets, a hardcover monograph, an outgrowth of an exhibition organized by the Foundation, (“with guidance from the artist and his son”, poet Vincent Katz), a long-overdue survey and assessment of his collaborations and lifetime engagement with poetry and poets.

See Vincent and Alex in discussion regarding those collaborations – here

The Ginsberg-Katz collaborations are notable

Katz on Allen : “”His poetry has a real big energy to it…When you get involved with large-scale works, you appreciate the large-scale works of other artists.”

Allen famously sat for Alex back in 1985 (out of which came, not only portraits, but the stunningly provocative “cutouts”

from Allen Ginsberg (from six-part “cutout”, oil on aluminum) (1985)
