Sad news we’re hearing today – the death of poet Jack Hirschman (aged 87)
He died suddenly today at his home in San Francisco, a few minutes before the start of a planned on-line interview with the World Poetry Movement
“..in these times of globalized hatreds, white supremacy, anti-Asian narrowness due to Covid-19, and anti-Black and anti-Brown bigotry rampant from Africa to South America, a poem is the most magnificent expression of sincere honesty against the fascisms of our time”
Hirschman took the position earlier this year as WPM’s General Coordinator.
(See “The Poetic Word” – his WPM statement – here)
The World Poetry Movement announcement of his passing is here – (“World Poetry Loses A Great Master”)
Here’s the posting we made on Jack (back in 2013) on the occasion of his 80th birthday
We send our deepest condolences and sympathies to all his many friends and loved ones (around the world), and in particular, his beloved, and long-time partner, poet, Agneta Falk Hirschman
