Ezra Pound

Ezra Pound’s birthday today. Pound was born 30th October, 1885 in Hailey. Idaho (and died November 1st. 1972 in Venice, Italy)

“This Difficult Individual, Ezra Pound”  as one of his biographers Eustace Mullins (himself a similarly “difficult individual”) so described him.

Daniel Swift’s judicious and even-handed examination of his time at St. Elizabeth, The Bughouse – The Poetry Politics and Madness of Ezra Pound was our focus last year.

(For a full (utterly exhaustive) account of Pound’s life and work – see A David Moody’s three-volume biography for Oxford University Press here, here and here )

As we noted then, there’s plenty of Ezra Pound on the Allen Ginsberg Project.

Don’t miss our 2011 posting – here

Other highlights include  here, here, here, here,  here and here.

We’d like to draw your attention to the myriad resources of the Ezra Pound Society

and, most-exciting, the currently on-going (now four years old) Cantos Project

Here’s more gems from the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Collection-

a page from 1954 July-September Notebook

& a passport photo of Pound (undated)

The “difficult” Ezra Pound lives on
