The Beats and Women – that continually thorny topic (we noted last week Blair Hurley’s Paris Review article – You might also recall Lynnette Lounsbury’s piece in The Guardian, a few years back – and, indeed, Amy Newman’s “Howl” (sic)) – David S Wills’ piece in the current Beatdom, in this context, comprehensive and scholarly, is well worth a read – “Beats and Women – “The Personal is Political” –  tentative notes on “the moves of Beat women to reclaim bodily freedom and space through performative poetry.”

One of the most recognized and acknowledged “performative” “Beat Women”, Anne Waldman, is interviewed this week – here – in the Colorado-based Westword, on the occasion of the publication of her latest book, Trickster Feminism

Raymond Foye‘s recent talk at the Gloucester Writers Center on John Wieners and Rene Ricard, erudite and illuminating, (what a life Raymond’s had!, a life like none other), is a must-listen-to, (available as a podcast) – here

More on Tom Clark  – Here if you missed it is the New York Times obituary.  Here – the note on PBS –  And here is Andrew Epstein’s informed note on his “New York School” blog Locus Solus

Speaking of “New York School” – John Ashbery‘s collages will be on show next month in New York at the Tibor de Nagy Gallery

Meanwhile, on the West Coast, as part of the Coastal Awakening Festival, (see here)  the On The Road scroll is headed for San Luis Obispo for two months (starting September 21st)

& an important significantly Ginsbergian fact – Today is the anniversary of the birth of one of Allen’s favorite poets, the mild-mannered wonderful Charles Reznikoff
