This film has been in the works since the mid ’90s when a film crew seemed to be following Corso just about everywhere he went. In the later 90s, director Gus Reininger took Corso on a whirlwind tour of Europe, stopping off at, among other places, Shelley’s grave in Rome and the Oracle at Delphi. Back in the States, director Reiniger was able to actually locate Corso’s mother, whom all assumed had vanished to Italy, & this reuniting for the first time in over 50 years is caught on film.
Last week it premiered at the Taormina Film Festival in Sicily and won it’s “Best Film” award. We’re all anxious to see this film, but US dates have yet to be announced. Read Variety’s review – here – Watch the trailer
2017 update – Yes, in this form, at least. this film will not be seeing the light of day – serious problems, not only with permissions but with many other aspects of the film. Reininger, it seems, left quite a mess, (he died April 2012 -unfinished work, unfinished business.
The Estate of Gregory Corso is currently looking at ways to retrieve the footage and ensure that it’s, at least, properly archived
I like the sound of this film, especially that bit with the real life reunion. Will sure be looking out for this when it hits our shores.
